These youth groups are so important to the amateur theatre movement. Their energy and enthusiasm must he directed and channelled. This was endorsed at the hugely successful "Accent on Youth" at the N.O.D.A. Northwest Theatre Weekend.

Another new venue for this Junior Section who have been driven to a somewhat nomadic existence owing to the high cost of performing venues, etc., but all power to their elbow; they keep finding new places and take their audiences with them. Andy Capp had its premiere at Manchester's Royal Exchange Theatre where it starred Tom Courtney and Alan Price. The show was based on the Daily Mirror cartoon strip by Reg Smythe. There could not be a better example of ensemble work. It was clear from the beginning that this company wanted to perform this piece. It was enjoyable to see the characters unfold and to see the youthful observation of adults. All the parents, aunts and uncles would have seen something of themselves on stage. Performances of note came from Stephanie Haw (Mrs Scrimmett) and Matthew McKenny (Geordie). There were many other good performers coming out of the Junior Section. The music was well taught and the company understood what they were singing. A fine show! Thank you for your hospitality.
