Urmston AOS's production is an ambitious colourful attempt at one of the more difficult musicals. The wordy, complex dialoguecan have all but the most accomplished actors tongue-tied and the songs are real tongue twisters. Even the below par acoustics of the curzon cinema, Flixton do noty entirely daunt them

It is upon the lead players that success depends and in Helen Coghill (Eliza Doolittle) and Nicholas Harrison (Professor Higgins) the company has a pair of real naturals. Helen Coghill is a particularly engaging Eliza, mastering the cockney accent beautifully in the early scenes.

As Henry Higgins, Nicholas Harrison is assured, almost bombastic, and he tackles his difficult songs - I'm An Ordinary Man and I've Grown Accustomed To Her - with commendable ease. The musical direction under Norman Spooner needs tightening up but producer Muriel Higginson shows imagination and a good eye for colour and effect.

Sir - I had the pleasure of watching a superb performance at the Curzon cinema last night. What a change to see a live performance. TV and radio are good but not in the same class as this. Long may our local shows continue.

Sir - Having just seen Urmston Operatic perform "My Fair Lady", I must say how well they do all their productions. They never seem short of talent. This show is so enjoyable I was sorry not to see all the seats filled, but may they thus continue in spite of all the difficulties of the present times
