Here's What They Said About......

ALADDIN

Reproduced from the Noda Magazine

Director: Doreen Cockshott
Musical Director: Eileen Salt
Choreographer: Tina Lowe

Aladdin was first told in "The Book of A Thousand and One Nights". It was first seen on the London stage at Covent Garden in 1788. The script for Urmston's production was written by the director and included a second principal boy and girl - and a pantomime horse!

Hannah Telford as Princess Lotus Blossom was enchanting. Hannah, at this stage of amateur theatre needs to be aware of repetitive gestures in order to avoid being classed as a dancer acting. Aladdin was confidently portrayed by Jill Ratcliffe. Unfortunately, the Grand Vizier and the Emperor were not played as confidently.

The set by Frederick's of Weston-Super-Mare was traditional. It was well lit and the stage crew coped admirably throughout. The chorus sang well and their costumes from Pantomime Shop were colourful. Musically, the content was good and well played.

Thank you for your warm hospitality.
