Manchester Music Award Nominations:
Manchester Music Award Nomination Jill Ratcliffe for Best Actress in her role as Kate/Lillie

This musical was first produced in New York in 1948 and in London in 1951. Set in Baltimore, Maryland, this contemporary story is played out in parallel with scenes from "The Taming of the Shrew", some of whose situations. resemble those in which the actors find themselves in real life.

Lilli Vanessi and Fred Graham play the leading roles of Katherine and Petruchio; Lois Lane and Bill Calhoun are Bianca and Lucentio. Urmston A. O. S bravely overcame the staging problems at this venue and smoothly presented this Cole Porter master-piece.

Jill Ratcliffe (Kate) was shrewish but I would have liked a touch of comedy. Blending well acting and vocally was David Reeves (Fred). Matthew Darrsley (Bill) and Sally Wild (Lois) were a very enjoyable duo.

The director gave the company routines within their abilities and everyone worked very hard. Dancers were well rehearsed their "Were Thine That Special Face" sequence was a highlight of the production.

This rounded off another memorable show. Thank you, Urmston AOS.
